Goerend Difference:
Our 2-4 clutch retainer is made from heat treated 4140 steel, to help reduce clutch steels from digging grooves into the drum. This clutch retainer is designed to accept four OE clutch steel plates (.101"), four OE friction plates (.087"), and the OE backing plate.
OE retainers will only accept three of these OE clutch steels and friction plates. The only way the OE retainer will accept four clutch steels and frictions is if using thinner steel plates and frictions, or a modified backing plate, which will result in the thin steel clutch plates digging grooves into the aluminum drum.
